The golf élite of Spain will compete in Gran Canaria

The best Spanish golf players will participate in the 21. Championship of España Individual APG

The most brilliant Spanish golf players, except Sergio García, are going to participate in the XXI Championship of España Individul APG (Spanish Individual Championship) in September, bringing together about 240 players in the south of Gran Canaria on a golf court of 71 pars, the Salobre Golf & Resort, which was constructed in 2000.

Severiano Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Pepín Rivero and José María Cañizares will be only some of the golf professionals who will delight the participants of the championship of España APG Trofeo Gran Canaria, which will be on time for the Peugeot Tour of Golf, informed the president of the Patronato de Turismo (Tourist Board) of Gran Canaria, Juan José Cardona.

Not the organization of the tournament, which is running in charge of the association of golf professionals in Spain, nor the Gran Canarian Patronato and the government can foresee the presence of Sergio García, as in those days from 7 to 10 September he will be preparing for his participation in the Ryder Cup, which will take place in Ireland.

Cardona pointed out that although there will have to be evaluated the results from the celebration held for the first on the island - this tournament has been celebrated for 21 years now - in the next 2 years probably the south of Gran Canaria will receive again new editions in other golf courts of this touristic aerea.

The General Manager of the Ordenación y Promoción Turística del Gobierno Canario, Raimundo Domínguez, pointed out that Canaria, with an offer of 20 golf courts, receives about 100.000 tourists a year who come to practise this sport and proceed, fundamentally, from the peninsula, the U.K. and Germany.
