Michelle Wie comes in 34th in Corea del Sur

The Hawaiian 16-year old Michelle Wie, who on Friday made history by excelling at the professional male tournament, came in 34th in the golf tournament in Incheón, in Corea del Sur, which has been shortened to three rounds due to unceasing drenching rain. Wie, with a terrible final card of 74 hits (two over par), fell from place 17 to place 34 with a total of 213 hits (70+69+74).
The clear winner of the tournament, endowed with 600.000 dollars, was the Thailandian Prom Meesawat with 201 hits (69+64+68), followed by the South Korean Lee Seong-ho (67+67+70) and the Indian Jeev Milkha Singh (68+66+70), both with 204 hits.
“Nevertheless I enjoyed myself”, said Wie, who added: “in the future I want to play always in the PGA championship and come in under the first 10”. Wie was the first woman to complete a court in a male tournament since the North American Babe Didrickson Zacharias in 1954 in Tuscon, USA. Despite the bad result in the last round, Wie came out of Corea del Sur with the head in the clouds. “I will take part in the classification in Hawai for the US Open in June”.
Up to Core des Sur, Wie tried in vain already on seven occasions to set foot in the male world of professional golf. And finally she reached something that the Swedish Annika Sorenstamm could not, who in 2003 was the first woman for 58 years to have the possibility to compete in a male professional tournament, even though she was out after two rounds.
